Crime rate in SL allegedly increased, poverty being the main cause: Minister Alles

The rise in the crime rate in the country is a direct repercussion of the economic crisis, stated the Minister of Public Security, Tiran Alles.

He made this statement while speaking to the News Desk yesterday (20).

Minister Alles noted that people mainly tend to commit acts of burglary due to poverty, and that the rise in crime rate has now become a threat to public security.

Meanwhile, when contacted by The News Desk in regards to the increase in crime rates, Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that theft and break-ins have indeed increased in Sri Lanka recently.

He also stated that the brutality of murders and attacks have supposedly intensified during the past year, as people have tended to act more violently even when it came to uncomplicated issues.
