CID Investigates Allegations from Channel 4 Documentary on Easter Sunday Attacks

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has initiated an inquiry into allegations stemming from a Channel 4 documentary aired last year, which focused on the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka. This investigation was prompted by a formal complaint lodged by an organization with the Ministry of Public Security, citing remarks made by Azad Maulana during the documentary.

In connection with the investigation, former Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, known as Pilleyan, has been called to appear before the CID today (12th), to provide his statement regarding the documentary’s assertions.

Police Media Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa confirmed this development during a press briefing held yesterday (11th). The CID’s investigation aims to address the claims made in the documentary and ensure accountability related to the tragic events of the Easter Sunday attacks, which had a profound impact on the nation. The focus on high-profile individuals like Pilleyan underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are approaching these allegations.
