The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has summoned former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing probe under the Anti-Corruption Act.
The investigation is based on allegations leveled against MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, who is accused of prematurely withdrawing a fixed deposit from the National Savings Bank in 2016.
The CIABOC believes that Wickremesinghe may possess information relevant to the inquiry, and may have played a role in the events under scrutiny.
Accordingly, The former President has been requested to appear before the Commission on April 17 at 9:30 a.m.
