The Attorney General’s department has informed the court today that investigations into Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s case is currently ongoing and that charges against the former President will be filed by March 2026.
Appearing on behalf of the AG department, Senior Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris informed Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Netthikumara that investigations into the case would be completed by March.
Wickremesinghe was accused of the misappropriation of government funds when he attended the graduation ceremony of his wife Prof. Maithree Wickremesinghe in the UK during his tenure as President of Sri Lanka.
Wickremesinghe was remanded in August 2025, and later released on bail.
