M.R.Y.K. Udawela has been appointed as the new Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
This appointment follows the resignation of W.K.D. Wijeratne from the position of Director General, after three Fundamental Rights petitions were filed against his appointment, which alleged it contravened the provisions of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023.
Having begun her legal career in 1993, Udawela joined CIABOC as an Assistant Legal Director in 1996.
She has worked under seven commissions and eight director generals, in over 28 years of service at the commission.
Before this appointment, she served as Additional Director General.
