The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) Director General Mr W A K Wijeratne has, in a sudden turn of events, decided to tender his resignation today (07).
A Fundamental Rights (FR) petition filed at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka by several parties, including renowned Journalist Ruwani Fonseka, challenged the appointment of the Director General citing the appointment as unconstitutional.
Accordingly, after arguments were taken up and proceeded by the respondents, Counsel representing Mr Wijeratne, Mr Udith Igalahewa, informed the court that his client, Mr Wijeratne, would step down from his position.
The court then informed Counsel Igalahewa that Mr Wijeratne would have to tender his resignation to President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka by 3pm today (07).
Journalist Ruwani Fonseka was represented by Counsel Venuke Cooray.
