An inmate at the Matara prison has succumbed to an illness and has passed away yesterday (22).
Prisons Commissioner and Media Spokesman Gamini. B. Dissanayake reported that the inmate, who was convicted of murder on 30 August, had a high fever which is suspected to be brain fever.
Meanwhile, 8 other inmates are currently battling the same symptoms as the deceased and is receiving treatment.
