Low-pressure area likely to form near Sri Lanka
The Department of Meteorology has announced that a low-level atmospheric disturbance near Sri Lanka is expected to develop into a low-pressure area around May 11th, while rainy conditions across the island are likely to continue over the coming days.
The department further warned that strong winds might affect both deep and shallow sea areas around the island, as well as deep sea regions in the Bay of Bengal in the days ahead.
Sea conditions in these areas are also expected to turn rough as the weather conditions further detoriate.
Meteorological data issued today (09) further indicates a possibility of cyclogenesis, or the formation of a depression in the following hours thereafter.
