The Election Commission has cautioned that individuals involved in unlawful campaigning following the conclusion of the campaign period for the imminent Presidential Election tonight at midnight could potentially be subject to arrest and legal repercussions.
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake emphasized that any person or group persisting in endorsing or advocating for candidates beyond the stipulated deadline would be infringing upon election regulations. Ratnayake underscored the presence of stringent measures to uphold a just and impartial electoral process.
Following the conclusion of the campaign period, Ratnayake clarified that no further public gatherings, dissemination of promotional materials, or door-to-door campaigning would be permissible. He further stated that the police have been instructed to take action against any campaign-related activities conducted post-deadline.
