Sri Lanka to send 10,000 agricultural workers to Israel

Israel’s Minister of Interior Moshe Arbel and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel Nimal Bandaranaike have signed an agreement which allows Israel to immediately hire 10,000 Sri Lankan farm workers.

According to Israeli media, this follows the cabinet’s approval last week. The approval allowed Israeli companies to bring 5,000 workers for the agricultural sector.

Due to the war, Israel’s agricultural sector has been big hard. Approximately 8,000 of 30,000 foreign agricultural workers have fled Israel since October 7. During the attack on October 7, Hamas terrorists took several individuals hostage in Gaza and slaughtered dozens of foreign workers.

At the same time, approximately 20,000 Palestinian agricultural workers have been banned from entering the country

Within the framework of this agreement, the first Sri Lankan agricultural workers should arrive in the coming weeks. 4,500 Sri Lankan workers are employed in Israel, with most working within the homecare sector.
