2024 GCE Exams Start with Enhanced Security Measures

The 2024 GCE Advanced Level examinations began today across 2,312 centres, as confirmed by Examinations Commissioner General Amith Jayasundara. A total of 333,183 candidates will participate, comprising 253,390 school candidates and 79,793 private candidates. This year’s regulations stipulate that only heads of examination halls are permitted to use mobile phones in the exam rooms, while other invigilators must refrain from using them.

The examination period will run until December 20. In light of potential disruptions, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) and the Examinations Department have collaborated on a joint initiative aimed at ensuring a smooth examination process. Recently, the Meteorology Department indicated the likelihood of a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, which could impact the region.

The proactive measures taken by the DMC and the Examinations Department aim to create a supportive environment for students, minimizing the risk of disturbances during this crucial assessment period. The emphasis is on providing candidates with the best possible conditions to succeed in their exams.
